Macron stands by remarks about sending troops to Ukraine ( www.politico.eu )

The prospect of sending Western troops to Ukraine was rejected by other NATO members, including the U.S., U.K. and Germany, and sharply criticized by French opposition parties, but not dismissed by Estonia and Lithuania. French officials also downplayed Macron's comments, pointing to activities such as demining and arms...

Considering they partially disarmed their own army to send artillery to Ukraine and are helplessly watching as their centuries old colonial rule crumble in west Africa, it did looked like empty posturing.

It is setting up a population of over a million purposefully in an impossible situation with nowhere to go, no access to hospitals (because you specifically destroyed them one by one), and no access to electricity, clean water or food.

It's basically Warsaw ghetto, but bigger and with 5 times more people inside.

Yes, but it's irrelevant, they can always either reduce jobs or import people. Also it's not as if any capitalist and especially capitalist class as a whole ever thought on 20+ years forward, they think about next quarter.

PolandIsAStateOfMind ,
@PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmy.ml avatar

Yes this is what i said, when lack of workers will prove to be an serious issue which capitalist economy would be unable to resolve by themselves, the state will come in to solve that, just as for example Polish state answered the need of cheap workforce around 2015 by reducing the requirements and regultions for Ukrainians, who were coincidentally searching jobs in the millions after maidan government strangled them with shock therapy. Which by the way didn't stopped the very same Polish government from denying to accept few thousands Syrians.

There's been a lot of Poles fighting in Ukraine, but not officially. Hard to say how much Polish government has been organising it, but while it has been on less level than let's say Italian blackshirts in Spain, some effort clearly been made since this is technically mercenary work which is illegal in Poland, and yet there was no or barely any arrests because of that, meaning police was ordered to look the other way when those people coming back.

I guess the same about Polish, this language is incredibly gendered and while the neutral gender does exist, it's a rump of it because it's only used for some inanimate objects, some animals and small babies, it is also not used at all in 1st nor 2nd person - so the mere usage of neutral form for a person automatically implies lack of agency and is a grave insult (also it became specifically transphobic insult thank to few jerks in the parliament). Language also default to masculine in case of unknown gender. So if a Pole randomly calls anyone "him" in the internet it's not necessarily purposeful misgendering, it's just how language works while English would default to neutral form - it's also one of the more common mistake in Polish translations of English books.

But even here some efforts has been made.

I mean Orks were originally Krorks, beings superior in every aspect to for example human marine primarchs, who were desigend to take on not only the galactic spanning might of Necrontyr but even the C'tan. But since Old Ones were really callous and cruel beings, they didn't given a shit about them and they degenerated to Orks as we know them (there's a lot of plot shield in this too but it's irrelevant atm). Orks are also more of an organic von Neuman machines.

Oh and speaking about Old Ones, the worst thing in the universe is what they did to Eldar. Old Ones were masters of the warp, they did know more than anyone about it. Yet they still designed Eldar as beings with not only good talent for warp, that would be not bad by itself, but also as beings with incredibly strong emotions and emotional feedbacks, which left them extremely vulnerable to warp - all that while knowing how warp works and by themselves being largely immune to this adverse effects due to their own nature.

PolandIsAStateOfMind ,
@PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmy.ml avatar

Something like this happened on the planet Urk where orks were fighting eachother for thousands of years but had no desire to ever leave until Ghazkull united them, but then they constructed spaceships with no problem. There's also a lot of feral orks in 40K universe while it shouldn't be the case since mek knowledge is genetic. So it indeed might be the safety switch made by the Old Ones to reduce the danger of Krorks. And both after Horus Heresy aftermatch seen a lot of galaxy unified under the Imperium and now when the overal danger level in galaxy intensified greatly the Ork activity also greatly risen which given birth to a Beast (M32) which was almost a Krork and now Ghazkull is on a good way to becoming one, so it might indeed be correct to say that the Orks are adapting to the level of danger.

The book "Da Gobbo rides again" provided some interesting lore parts about how greenskin specialisation works.

It still does not. Slave labour is very cost ineffective even if you are woking people to death, because costs of infrastructure, guard, kidnapping etc. are much higher than what is gained on not paying wages, also even slaves worked to death have to eat else they would last maybe few days and their productivity is abysmal compared to even serfs and not to mention wage labourers. That's why ancient slavery disappeared.
There are only two cases where slavery is profitable: First is when there is huge amount of slaves AND the economy is on primitive level, both parts are also important else we would see III Reich use slave labour on even bigger scale, and they largely used them in primitive farming and industry like mining, logging etc. Second is when somebody else, usually state, pays for abovementioned costs like infrastructure etc. and private sector gets the gains, that was also the case of III Reich and is now the case in USA penitentiary system.

most people remember Tibetan monks doing the same thing

Out of political selfimmolations there were 7 Tibetan cases, but dozens of others including many Americans. I wonder why "most people" remember particularly those. Would it be that US media wasn't fair to report not only this one here?

Lmao that's what i was talking about, the one on this album cover wasn't even Tibetan, he was Thích Quảng Đức, a Vietnamese buddhist monk, selfimmolating in Saigon in 1963 as protest against US-backed South Vietnam government persecuting buddhists.
So why people like you think he was Tibetan if not for media misleading you? This was literally the most famous of public selfimmolation and the one that started it all for in XX century.

Not cool, a lot of Ashkenazi Jews aren't Zionists and not live in Israel.

Name itself is coming from legendary figure of Ashkenaz, grandson of Japhet who as the direct descendant of Noah symbolise Germany. Germany was called Eretz Ashkenaz in Yiddish since medieval, and so Ashkenazi Jews = Jews in Germany, from where they spread to nearly entire west, north and east Europe when they were running away from pogroms.

What can you get to within a 15-minute walk of your house?

A recent YouGov survey asked Americans what they think they should be able to get to within a 15-minute walk of their house.

Of these choices, I can currently walk to all of them from my apartment, aside from a university (no biggie, I'm not currently studying, although there is a Tafe within walking distance), a hospital, and a sports arena.

How many can you get to with a 15 minute walk from your house?

What a character. Ukrainian internet for example is celebrating his death because he supported annexation of Crimea. Most other people should celebrate because he was unhinged racist fuck who publicly called Caucasians (as in people from Caucasus, not white Americans) "cockroaches" and called for killing them. He was also once kicked out from Yabloko, Russian liberal (in context really meaning right-center to far right) party for being way too fash for them.

Alexei Navalny was pronounced dead ( lenta.ru )

As reported exclusively by russian sources at the moment, he lost consciousness after a walking hour and prison medics were unsuccessful in reanimating him, as per sources in УФСИН (government body regulating prisons and punishment). He was 47 years old at that time. The last time he was heard of he was moved from...

Trump did a random missile strike on an Iranian general

It wasn't random. It was to appeal the warhawks in republican party. If you remember how it went, they were ramping up rhetorics and manufacturing consent for war with Iran, but that stopped really abruptly, like cut with knife. I don't know what was the real reason or their combination, it might be that the manufacturing consent was not working as intended, maybe ithey pushed too fast, maybe Pentagon wasn't ready, maybe because Iran shot down their most modern drone with old Soviet missile using domestically manufactured radar proving their deffensive capabilities were more significant than what Pentagon assumed. Anyway, the ramping to war stopped so suddenly that even the leading warhawk that is John Bolton was surprised and he even got sacked from WH which prompted him to publish book where he accuse Trump of being less warhawk than himself and many rep senators.

So Soleimani was assassinated to appease the warhawks and because US have to have last word.

Hold your fetishes tight to yourself, i'm not interested. Also "one of them went to prison", even if true, does not correspond at all to the scale of the supposed "russiagate". Your party is in power for over 3 years, you could think they would found something more concrete if it was true.
