Like the good old BASIC compactor we had in the 80s, and this also exists for Javascript, replace all variables with a to z then aa to az etc if more than 26, compact every line with ';' etc in the end it's uneradable

People are dumb, and I'm pretty sure we see this in every countries. The sources of those fake news are often from China/Russia, they have thousands of trolls posting fake news on social media, and gullible conservatives share them.

Incredibly, The Russian Air Force Has Lost Another Rare A-50 Radar Plane ( www.forbes.com )

Incredibly, the Russian air force has lost another one of its rare Beriev A-50M/U Mainstay radar early-warning planes. Video that circulated online on Friday reportedly depicts the A-50’s burning wreckage in Krasnodar Krai, in Russia just east of the Sea of Azov....

I'm in QC and on the waiting list for 10 years. What is a family doctor? It's unknown here. And even if you have one you cannot see him before 3 or 4 weeks, so you go to the ER or private doctor

Dis ce que tu veux mon ami, mais je suis inscrit au "guichet accès santé" depuis que ça existe, et je n'ai jamais eu de médecins de famille.

60 is good because you can divide it by 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 12, 15, 20, 30 which is convenient

School districts are going crazy in Québec and urge to close all schools and keep the children locked in home with closed curtains, or kids will become blinds!!!

I'm speechless... https://news.google.com/search?q=school%20eclipse&hl=en-CA&gl=CA&ceid=CA%3Aen

I'm pretty sure those jammers (they saturate wifi band with trafic) are used only for burglary time, say 10-15 minutes, and very local, so the neighbour million$ mansion is far enough that they are not affected. How come FCC detect this?

Magister ,

I discovered winget (command in PowerShell) a couple of years ago, it's pretty cool

I'm in QC and it's quite incredible this winter, instead of 0F we have 48F, we had 2 snowstorm in a few days early January, nothing since. I've never saw a winter like this, people were wearing shorts this week-end

Me too, my car is 10 years old, all paid, I only have 83'000 miles on it, yeah I changed brakes/rotor and a couple of stuff mainly in suspension/linkage because of pothole... but that's it.

Yep, there was not a lot of Un*x desktop in the 90s, mainly SCO, SVR4, BSD, SunOS1/SunOS2/Solaris.

It was the great time of mainframe, HP-UX, IBM AIX, Silicon graphics IRIX, and we had dozens of TX (X Terminal, a thin client running local X). I was a sysadmin on those dinosaurs, it was a good times. Installing HPUX8 with magnetic tapes, what a time.. you know that the tar command means tape archiver, right?

And before that it was 8" floppy disk we used on older system like GCOS6 / DPS6 / Mini6, google it, it as fun :) the one I used was exactly as the one on this picture http://www.feb-patrimoine.com/projet/gcos6/gcos6.htm

Yup, on my Audiovox 8910, using a special USB cable and some obscure qualcom softwares, to access the "file system" and put a wav at the right place, and it had to be mono 8bits or something.

I didn't want to pay $5 for a 10 seconds ringtones sample of a song. I did it myself :)

Yup, it started with Sainte-Catherine street IIRC in Montreal, in the pic it is Mont-Royal street, it's pretty cool in summer to have those streets for pedestrians, really

oh yeah... 89/90... I remember, I wanted the 386 because 32bits and protected mode (windows 386 enhanced mode for the win!) so I bought something like your father but a 386/1MB/40MB and I upgraded to a VGA card and a 14" multisync VGA monitor (1024x768, at the time it was incredible). Cost of all this? $4000...

Magister ,
@Magister@lemmy.world avatar

oh I did everything myself too, bought all parts and assemble everything, always funny to plug everything, LED, turbo button, HDD led, etc.

Magister ,
@Magister@lemmy.world avatar

The scariest part was inserting properly all the ISA cards, some were pretty hard to put and remove. 386 CPU was soldered on the MB, we cannot replace it :-/

But it was the same in 1990 that in 2023, install spacers on motherboard, screws, PSU with AT plug, insert all ISA cards, and wire all the small wires for led/button, IDE cable, floppy cable, power cable, etc, it was a nest inside :)

Then you powered on (a big red switch on the side that made a big CLUNK) and pray everything work!

After that it was configuring your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT to load driver etc. Playing with XMS, EMM386, HMA, to gain the smallest kilobyte you can from the first 640K, else some games weren't working.

It's incredible that I was on reddit for 13 years or something, daily, maybe I spent 20'000 hours there. Then I dropped after the API fiasco (I'm a SyncPro user) and never went back, I have no clue what's going on since ~July and I don't care and I don't miss it :)

My phone support (and came with) a 33W charger, I tested it and it properly charges at 11V 3A, very quick, I used it 2 or 3 times only in emergency because I had to go and 20 minutes charges to 70% or something.

Else? My phone is on my desk, connected to the computer, it charges slowly (5V 500mA?), when it reaches 80-85% I unplug it.

I WFH so it is never a problem, I keep my phone between 30 and 80% most of the time. After 2 years battery life is still impressive I think.
