My Pixel does. 🤷🏼‍♂️

MDKAOD ,

Not sure what your point is. You confidently, perhaps prematurely, suggested that OP's phone didn't have hardware AV1 decoding. Do you know what kind of phone they have? Your filter also ignores Tensor as a chipset. All Pixels since 6 have AV1 hardware decoding. So, basically, what you're suggesting is that anyone with a phone over 3 years old doesn't have AV1 hardware decode, and considering that the specification was only finalized in early 2019, you seem pretty grumpy about it for some reason. Just because it's being set as default doesn't mean support is being removed, just deprecating them as a fallback. Why grumpy?

The challenge is that in this current Trumpworld political climate is that news organizations that push back or argue in the slightest would never get additional interviews. Similar to how game publishers stop sending review copies to publications who haven't reviewed their previous works in a positive light.

We appear to be in an era of "no news except positive news or else" rather than "all press is good press"

MDKAOD ,

I agree. It's the current state of our society. Nobody likes to be challenged or have their feels hurt, which leads to avoidance of the challenge. It's a catch-22. There's little value in a non challenging interview. There's no value in an interview that doesn't occur at all.

Sane people in Florida need to evacuate as soon as possible.

No! That is exactly the power play. Policies like this are intended to move liberal voters out of swing states. You know, the ones that sway the elections. They want the swing states to be red states.

MDKAOD ,

Maybe you've heard of boofing? There's a supreme court justice who I hear was a big fan in college..

Bone conduction headphones?

I just recently learned that this is a thing that exists. I've had a couple audiology tests that use these weird headphones with firm rubber balls where normally expect to see the speakers; the rubber balls sit on your temporal bone, and there's a metal bar the wraps around your head connecting them and giving them pressure to...

If you decide to sell, dm me. I have open run standards and considering pro.

MDKAOD ,

The issue I have had with ipods in general is even with third party management, you had to make a Playlist for everything. I wanted to dump my library of A-Z folders and use the device like a file structure.

I'm in the minority, but I stopped making Playlists/mix cds/mixtapes when I graduated high school.

It may be better these days, but when it was needed most, it wasn't as mature.

Biden promised to install thousands of EV charging stations. Only 7 have been built [so far] ( wapo.st )

“State transportation agencies are the recipients of the money,” he said. “Nearly all of them had no experience deploying electric vehicle charging stations before this law was enacted.”

MDKAOD ,

My understanding is they the problem with hydrogen is the conversion loss factor of air to hydrogen. It at least used to be a net loss of power by a significant margin to generate.

As hopeless as it feels sometimes, the US has opened two new nuclear power plants in the last 8 years and there Is broad support for new nuclear in the US.

And fusion is becoming viable at scale finally due to AI preventing spillover and runaway. Hope is late, but not lost.

I saw Funhaus on YouTube play a game of "eye tracker" with ai handshakes. The prompt for the person in the hot seat was 'just look at the real handshake'. Hilarity ensued. Going to try it with the family at Christmas this year.

MDKAOD ,

Have you heard of Delaware corporations? You're right, but for 250 dollars you, too could open up a shell company to hold your assets!

MDKAOD ,

So many dick jokes. So much fun though

MDKAOD ,

I don't have time or energy to get into a debate, but as someone also I the creative industry, your points are just fallicy. You may have your preference to use a Mac, but justifying them with your perception of "it's just better because I don't need to think about anything" is just wrong.

Custard is made with egg, ice cream is not.

I was going to say Snapple Elements, but apparently they're back on shelves within the last month.

They're owned by a publicly traded holding company in Georgia (state) now and since 2011. Thst should be enough information to know why it's gotten worse.

What are Some Good, Recent, and Available Dumb Cars?

I have a 2010 Toyota Corolla. She's been my trusty steed for the last 14 years and is in good working order. I recognize she won't last forever, and if, god forbid (mostly for her) I get in an accident, I will need to get a new car. So what dumb cars do you drive, and what would you replace them with?

Toyota has a subscription service for remote start. https://support.toyota.com/s/article/Does-Toyota-Remote-Co-10227

Harris has been pro weed for years now. One of the foremost issues with our political system in the US is that these people are elected by a constituency that demands a job be done in a way that they want. (I am purposely ignoring the corporate donor aspect for this statement)

The locality (and the era) demanded drug dealers go to jail, so she did her job. Where Harris has floundered is how she talks about it and attonrs for it today.

You can be outspoken about a politicians past, but it's disingenuous to ignore that a politician has changed, especially so if they have changed with positive progression.

MDKAOD ,

I know there's been a big too-do about lemmy and it's modding tools (or lack there of) but I worry that this is a major concern for the platforms long term viability. With reddit, we could restrict posting from accounts with less than whatever karma, I don't know if that exists with lemmy communities.

MDKAOD ,

Not the person you're arguing with. Perhaps they aren't aware of the specific things you're taking issue with. So rather than being belligerent, explain what your angle is. What "things" specifically are you talking about. How did Harris throw innocents in jail? Because most people have an issue with her throwing people in jail over possessing small amounts of weed. Obviously you're concerned with something else. So what is it?

MDKAOD ,

This is dumb, Texas is the swinging capital of the US.

MDKAOD ,

I'm with the other dude. Your comment makes no sense, even after reading the article. You have spat out words without context as to what you're responding to, and without enough detail to infer it on our own. 🤷🏼‍♂️

MDKAOD ,

The hard part is the social aspect of media. It's not always about what's good, it's about the conversation surrounding the things. I get weird looks when I talk about Plex. Also xkcd comic cutting edge

What's your opinion on using rw Blu-ray disks for storing movies, ect?

Well I thought about using them instead of buying a hdd, I looked for some comparisons and found a 50 pack of 25gb blu ray drives and a 2tb harddrive for 60, it can store 35 movies more (thinking the movie is 24 GB) than the pack of drives, and that isn't accounting the disk drive to read the disks...

Photos and phone data for nicely in this category. $10 is a steal.

I use LTO8 tapes every day in 2024 lol

MDKAOD ,

I'm researching aftermarket head units for my wife's Kia, what did you go with?

MDKAOD ,

I have wireless android auto in my GLI. It's fine. There have been a few random instances where being connected wirelessly has been inconvenient. But my biggest gripe is the battery drain.

MDKAOD ,

Nevermind the walled garden problem. We've got potentially great content locked behind different storefronts requiring different hardware for each.

In the quest for dominance, everyone is losing.

Like, I understand Valve's "no exclusive content" stance, but they really should consider pumping publishing money into vr software studios, but with an open platform clause. A healthy ecosystem of software will enable VR to thrive. Either that or engage in negotiations with the other players to create a VR collective agreement. It'll never happen, but one can dream.

Remedy acquires full rights to the Control franchise from 505 ( www.destructoid.com )

Today, on February 28, nearly five years after Control’s initial launch, Remedy Entertainment, the team behind the Alan Wake, Quantum Break, and Control series, released an announcement regarding a deal between them and 505 Games, detailing a full transition to Remedy acquiring full rights to the franchise. While Remedy...

Asian Wake 2 will likely never come to another platform. It's published by epic games. Not a timed exclusive situation.

MDKAOD ,

So play it. Support the developer. I'm staunchly anti epic, Alan Wake 2 has been my only exception.

Hey look, it's the Incus guy. Every time this topic comes up, you chime in and roast Proxmox and it potential issues with a link go a previous comment roasting Proxmox and it's potential issues and at no point go into what those potential issues are outside of the broad catch all term of 'bloat'.

I respect your data center experience, but I wish you were more forward with your issues instead of broad, generalized terms.

As someone with much less enterprise experience, but small business it administration experience, how does Incus replace ESXi for virtual machines coming from the understanding that "containerization is the new hotness but doesn't work for me" angle?

MDKAOD ,

That's clever as hell. It's been a long time since I've seen a new illusion.
