Seeing the texture of brushstrokes adds so much depth too.

Vaguely reminiscent of The Stacks in Ready Player One.

Yeah, the time change always messes me up more than I think it should. I wish we would just stop it altogether.

CuddlyCassowary ,

Not anymore. Used to have both and deleted them as data mining and mishandling became more prevalent as the user experience declined. Now I’m only on Lemmy and barely on LinkedIn.

Kohei Saito’s “Start From Scratch” Degrowth Communism | if taken seriously, it would lead to political disaster for both the socialist left and the environmental movement | Jacobin ( jacobin.com )

Degrowth is a popular concept among solarpunks. This Jacobin article discusses some of its flaws from a Marxist standpoint. In particular, Jacobin reminds us an interpretation of Marxism which blames the Western working class for exploiting the Global South, and lectures the ever-more-exploited Western worker on the need to...

Yep, I have shorter ones for more casual outfits and full length for dressy events. They never seem “costumey” when they go with the overall look. I’m a woman in a metro area though.

Disgusting.

I have a Saudi client who was renting a property in London, I think it was £100,000 a week. They booked it out for three months. They brought 60 of their staff from Saudi Arabia all the way over to the property. It was a family of three, and they only went for three days.

Hello from Denver where it was 70 degrees yesterday, and is supposed to be 68 today. This ain’t right.

I feel like they’re lowkey body shaming. Or it was made by stoners.

Same. I think I got it on a spring break in Mexico. I vaguely remember quite a few people having them.

They’re pretty consistent about doing whatever benefits them most. Otherwise, nah.

CuddlyCassowary ,

The recent Apple TV interface update is TERRIBLE too. They’re taking up more space with less content so I can’t see more than two or three saved videos in my playlist at a time. And it’s a pain in the ass to even get to a playlist now. Really terrible, but I love some of the creators, so I don’t know what else to do.

Even being at 1%, just outside of totality is completely different. Yes, you can still see it, but it’s still a lot of sunlight.

Here’s the answer to your actual question though:

CuddlyCassowary ,

I read it accurately as urchin crushing, but still thought they were talking about destitute children at first (a la Oliver Twist).

A rant about an experience I had with Google maps today.

I am currently studying in college and part of my college course dictates that I most do a work experience placement. I ended being placed in a charity shop. The first couple of days went well. Its a small little shop in a shopping center so there wasn't much for me to do. So they decided that today I'll do some work in the...

Even though I put the actual address of my home in, it sends me to another address on a different street. There are a lot of one-way streets involved, so it’s not a simple re-route when people end up there. I’ve submitted countless correction requests for years, but of course nothing changes.

CuddlyCassowary ,

That’s so odd that it’s a “one way” mess up!

CuddlyCassowary ,

I created a Trogdor Cocktail today in honor. Trogdor day will forever be my favorite holiday.

CuddlyCassowary ,

I’m still perfecting it and will post the finished version tomorrow. It involves peaty scotch to emulate burninating thatched roof cottages. There’s a float of grain alcohol to set it on fire. I’m using a pencil as a stirrer to serve it with.

If this turns out drinkable, I’ll see about getting some appropriate glasses made. More soon…

P.s. I also have a Trogdor bumper sticker on my car. I must never allow it to be in an accident - irreplaceable!

CuddlyCassowary ,

P.p.s. If any of you are around Denver for next year’s Trogday, hit me up, I’ll host a birthday cocktail party with my new invention.

Trogdor: The Cocktail

DISCLAIMER: This was done on a whim with what I had around the house, but now that I've gone down this path I plan on continuing to perfect it throughout the year as well as making other SB themed cocktails ("The Cheat" and "Light Switch Rave" obv!). Personally the flavors suit my palette, but I expect it will be a bit divisive.

Serving: 1

Ingredients

  • 2oz blended scotch or whisky (I used Tullamore Dew...it was what I had at hand)
  • 1 tsp sweet/spicy sauce or simple syrup (I used Bjorn's Sweet & Spicy Colorado Honey because I was too lazy to make my own *see note below)
  • 1/4 oz smoky single malt for burninated thatched cottage flavor (I used Lagavulin 16 year...yep, it's what I had around)
  • cucumber (for ribbon) for enhanced Trogdor body vibe
  • cinnamon stick soaked in grain alcohol (for fire garnish)
  • pretzel stick broken in half (eyebrow garnish)

Instructions

  • Combine blended scotch & sweet/spicy stuff in a cocktail shaker 3/4 filled w ice
  • Shake until chilled
  • Strain into rocks glass with one honkin' big cube and the cucumber ribbon spiraled around to emulate Trogdor's green body
  • Top with float of peaty single malt
  • Use dollop of sweet/spicy stickiness to fix to pretzel sticks as an eyebrow-looking garnish
  • Stick cinnamon stick in drink and light on fire

If you can't find an appropriate pre-made sweet/spicy ingredient, message me and I'll whip up a recipe for something for ya.

Now that I'm on this kick, I want to figure out how to get Strongbad "tiki" glasses made. If any of you have ideas around that, please send 'em my way.

Keep on burninating kickass peeps, and please give me suggestions, advice, jokes, whatever, and let me know how yours comes out if you make one!

See my comments for my take on a Trogdor cocktail. I'll have it perfected by next year (21 year olds like Trogdor don't care what it tastes like anyway...)

How Many Streaming Services Do You Have?

I remember when it was just Hulu for $5 and Netflix for $8. Saved $50 a month from cable. Now it seems we spend more. I have four. Max, Peacock, Paramount and Hulu. Prime doesn’t count because it sucks balls. (Only paying Netflix when next Stranger Things and Squid Game is released). Curious to see what the average...

CuddlyCassowary ,

I like it. I got the three flavor variety pack from Amazon.

The transition from the holiday season back to the normal drudgery is so depressing. Is there any way to make Jan / Feb less depressing?

like, it's still dark at 5pm, there are barely any sports on, still bitterly cold and austere and it hurts to go outside, but you're not even looking forward to christmas or the new year. the new year is here, and it's largely the same as last year. except you're getting older.

CuddlyCassowary ,

Look up the cultural practice / philosophy of “hygge” it’s basically meant to answer this (but extends beyond just winter months too).

People who can don't get mad and just go with the flow, how do you do it?

Here recently it seems like everything just gets under my skin so quickly and easily. It's not that I get mad and take it out on others, it's just the fact that I'm constantly annoyed and stressed. Something as simple as the dogs tracking some mud through the house will just ruin my mood. I know some people who would just laugh...

Learning, studying, and embracing Stoicism has really helped me. I find The Daily Stoic by Ryan Holiday helps keep it top of mind for me. It’s a bit of a pop philosophy book, but it works for me.

CuddlyCassowary ,

This has quotes from the OG Stoics that are then interpreted for modern life with a paragraph or two. I don’t fully subscribe to every interpretation, but at least it keeps me mindful in my own way.

A second thing I do when I get easily annoyed is to stop and ask myself if I’m tired, hungry, or burned / stressed out about something else. If so, I try to find one small thing in my control I can do to improve my situation. Usually by doing one thing I’m “in control” of it helps me not get so frustrated with the things beyond my control. Even if it’s just realizing that if I clean up a mess an hour later, it’s not the end of the world.

I guess the shortest answer to your question is by keeping a much bigger perspective on life.

Does anyone remember /r/RandomActsOfPizza?

When I first got onto the site that shall not be named, while poking around in it I found that community fairly fast. I never participated due to the fact that I never needed it, but I also didn't really have the extra cash to send a pizza to anyone as well. But I always thought it was such a genuine gesture of people on the...
