It's a good buying opportunity now. I don't like Musk or Teslas but I will buy his stock to make me money. :)

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I don't know, I feel like it has support on these levels. But we will see....

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Wouldn't you? That job seems to be low pay with tons of hours. If you want to fix that, raise salaries and reduce hours so nurses can feel like human beings.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I never see the homepage even. It shows up if you close the browser? I never do that on my phone.

Most important thing is you can change your search engine to whatever you want.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Yup but that's fine, they are full of crap anyway. :)

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I stopped watching in the first episode when the tiny girl beat up a muscular huge man.

Felt like avengers but she is supposed to be a normal girl right? I felt it was so dumb.

@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Yeah I don't know the fallout backstory at all, but A+ doesn't change things like physics.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Yeah I've heard about that actually :) Funny...

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Really? So interesting to me that someone would think she could even hurt the guy.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Well I guess, if the TV show is supposed to be like a game, then at least I understand why she is overpowered.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I mean, as the previous posters have said, if this is supposed to be like a game, then sure. Anything is possible. But if it was reality, she would have no chance against that guy.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I removed the smiley since I didn't intend it to be condescending. But I'm 100% certain that guy would knock that girl out in a second. It wasn't just "a man", it was a fit fighter man with tons of muscles.

But like I said, if it's a game, there is no real physics so anything is possible.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Yeah it's fine. Let's move on to other topics. :)

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Yeah makes sense. I don't know the backstory at all so in that light, it makes sense. Guess they wanted to cast some sexy actor rather than someone who looks the part.

At my job we are looking to use a hardened ubuntu image but not sure what to pick. Got any recommendations?

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

We are using an AMI on aws for Ubuntu right now. We need to stick to Ubuntu also since our product is tested on that distribution and so on. What about hardened Ubuntus?

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I predict we won't be able to properly express how someone looks in 5 years, because all words will be offensive.

White/Black/Asian. Fat. Bald. Skinny. Women/Man. Probably all offensive soon.

I think it's ridiculous that it's allowed. It's the reason why I can't live in apartments. Most of them have poor sound isolation and it's terrorizing to have to listen to music through the walls, or to walk around with noice canceling headphones constantly.

The argument "people need to live their lifes" is also weird. What about my life where I want my apartment to be quiet?

Also it's dangerous to human health to be forced to have noise around us. You can never fully relax. It's against our very nature to not be able to rest in quiet.

Only when I moved to a house, I felt finally at peace.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Yeah true. I usually hear about noise complaints from people in apartments. It should be a lot more uncommon in houses.

Just bad luck I guess.

Never tried passing the GPU through. You use virtualbox or something else?

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I personally can't stand an instance where the admins block other instances based on their personal beliefs.

In this case however, I imagine they are afraid of legal issues, which makes sense, being the largest instance.

I trust my vpn provider, but I don't trust my isp to not give out my ip. So using a VPN is obvious and I havent had any issues doing that for decades.

If your mindset is that you can't trust anyone, then yes, doesn't matter. But you can trust some of them. You need to know which ones have a history of caring about privacy and which ones are just advertised heavily.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Ok and if you don't trust anyone, you don't have any protection at all.

Personally I don't trust any big tech companies, naturally. But there are smaller vpn providers like Mullvad that are trustworthy. They are never American.

I agree. I'm learning go right now and it has answered every question with absolute excellence. It probably accelerates my learning time by 10x at least.

It's much better than searching the web, because you can't share your exact code with the web and get a detailed walkthrough of how it works.

Gpt4 of course.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I hear this over and over but none of what you say actually matters.

It's not luck if it gives accurate and detailed answers for almost every question that actually compiles and works.

I think the difference in opinion comes down to what you use it for. In some areas I imagine it will just hallucinate. But in others, such as coding, it's often almost 100% correct and a magic tool for learning and saving soooo much time.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

You say food but all I see is McDonald's.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Yeah but that's how humans have built it.

This planet could be a paradise. It's all about mindset. As long as we allow systems that drain human lives and turning us into debt slaves, this is what we get.

It's completely possible to turn it around tomorrow. All it takes is humans with power to want it.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

People who use windows probably don't mind even. Everyone who uses windows at my workplace just gets used to the shit and don't think about it.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

You talk about technology but what's really changing is how much worse the culture becomes. We have some kind of a monoculture now with total groupthink.

Younger people don't notice this I guess. :)

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I think it's the right choice to agree to some measures being taken. Even if it has marginal effect, it sends a message that you are doing what you can.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Very good :)

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I think also most instance owners do more wirh their days than moderate their instance. At least I hope so, for their sake. :)

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Doesn't mean they don't either. :)

I think it's likely they do. There has been so many sightings through the years and so many stories that I believe no smoke without fire, so to speak.

It's also what we would do. We (humans) would have similar strategy if we had similar technology to visit other planets.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

An operating system should never call home what apps the user has or what the user is doing. That's an extreme invasion of privacy.

Why do people still use this? Everyone should immediately take a Linux course and stop being suckers.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

No but it absolutely should be, because people wouldn't allow a person standing in their living room, writing down everything they do on their computers. But since it's not visible to the user when it happens, they don't care. But it's actually disgusting behavior, we just got used to not being able to stop it.

Why should we contribute to these companies getting rich from selling our private data??

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I left them over ten years ago, so..... :)

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I don't know, I think it's quite buggy using a tiling window manager. App dialog window sometimes end up the size of applications. But with a lot of config, I guess you can get a smooth system.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I don't see the point of it as a locally installed option. Why save disk space?

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I use proxmox and Ubuntu 23.10 on the VM images. I like to have a recent kernel.

Otherwise my favorite is arch linux but proxmox didn't have recent arch images in their repo.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Upgrading them should be done frequently since it's a rolling release distro. If you wait a long time and then do a large update, you may run into issues because they are not really designed for that. You should always be on the latest version of packages.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Nothing usually happens but the distro is not tested in that way. The devs don't wait six months and then update every package in the system at once. It probably works (and it has for me, every time) but it's just not what users do normally. They keep it updated all the time.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Well I wouldn't want to be with a women who acts like a (stereotypical) man, but that's me. :)

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

That's true.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

No need for press offices when you are a Musk.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

The only update I want is going back to Windows 7 anyway. This crap they call a modern operating system is inferior to Linux and mac os.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I think people are just used to being passive now. They dont tinker with the tech and they think its all the same.

People still use Chrome also because Google kept saying its "faster", which doesnt even mean anything. Security, privacy and plugin support is what matters.
